Pranam to Parampoojya Parameshwar Sadguru Swami Anilji Maharaj
Atmadhnyan Shighra Sadhana… 13
(English Translation of the series in Hindi by Brahmatmaikdhnyani Sant Swami Anilji Maharaj)
Lord Shrikrishna had slain demon Narakasur on this day of Narakchadurdashi. We will start the study of the Yadhnyavalkya-Maitrei saga from today to completely destroy the Narakasur hidden in the form of Ignorance.
Atmadhnyan (Self Knowledge, Self Realisation) is in fact the process of removal, destruction of ignorance; as Atma is Self Established like Sun; no other light is needed for searching, finding out Sun.
Then what would be that light through which, Atma; enabling Sun, Moon and innumerable stars to shine; can be seen? Obviously none. Atma is not the object that can be searched or researched through any kind of means or knowledge.
To make this more clear, take an example of finding out properties of any material, for which the support of Science of Chemistry needs to be taken. Like that there is no science to find or to know about Atma. Atma is self luminous, self established.
For the dusty mirror, only the dust needs to be removed to see the face, no other means is necessary; likewise by removal of the Ignorance, the self knowledge gets automatically dawned upon us, no other means or science is necessary.
“Maitreiti hovach Yadhnyavalkya udhyasyanva
Aree.. hamasmat
Sthanadasmi
Hast tee..naya
Katyayanyantam
Karavaniti”
Yadhnyavalkya Rishi received hoards of wealth subsequent to the victory in the wisdom led debate of the wise scholars of Hindu Scriptures, in the court of the King Janak.
Rishi had two wives Katyayani and Maitrei. Katyayani was an ordinary housewife while Maitrei was Scholar, beautiful and quite liked by the Rishi.
One day Rishi said,
“Oh, Maitrei now I will renounce family and worldly life and will go to the forest.
I wish to take your permission as well as distribute my wealth between you and
Katyayani “.
Maitrei answered, “Oh Lord! Tell me even if all the wealth on this earth is conferred on me, will I become immortal?”
Sage said, “No! Your life will be like a person possessing all the means of enjoyment. There is no hope for immortality with wealth.”
Maitrei said, “What will I do with the possessions which do not make me immortal? Pray Tell me the means for attaining immortality.”
Maitrei you are really blessed one! You were earlier also my beloved and now also you are saying the things dear to me. Please come and sit with me, I will define immortality for you, keep reflecting on my words.” said the Sage Delightedly and started his discourse.
(The words by the Sage are quite harsh, however the Knowledge Seekers must accept this telling of Vedas.
Irrespective of acceptance or otherwise by others.)
“Sa hovach na va are patyuh kamay patihi priyo bhavatyat manastu kamay patihi priyo bhavati ।
Na va are jayayei kamay jaya priya bhavatyat manastu kamay jaya priya bhavati ।
Na va are putrannam kamay putrah priya bhavatyat manastu kamay putrah priya bhavanti ।”
Any of the women doesn’t love the husband for the happiness of the husband, she loves him for her own happiness. She gets immense inner joy in loving the husband that is why she loves him not for the sake of happiness of the husband. By loving husband if the wife doesn’t get the own happiness, gradually she would start hating him.
Likewise husband loves his wife for his own happiness not for the sake of her happiness. Whatever happiness He may get from his wife, but if he does not get inner happiness then he will start hating her. Wife is beloved for the sake his own happiness.
Children are not dear to parents for the sake of their happiness, By loving the children, parents get extreme inner joy that is why the parents love children.
(we see in daily life also that husband – wife, parents – children loving relationship vanishes and gets strained to the extent of becoming enemies in some cases when the things happen extremely opposite to the individual liking.)
We all know the story of mother monkey and her child, set to cross the river. Mother monkey tried very hard to save the child, however when the water level rose beyond her head, she after looking around stood on her child. Now with standing on her child she was trying to come out of water.
Each and every being loves only himself, that is his own self (Atma). He loves others only when he himself gets delighted.
“Atmanastu kamay Sarvam priyam bhavati”
For self happiness only all are dear.
This principle of philosophy of love by
Omniscient Sage Yadhnyavalkya is the truth unaffected by the time. It is the truth for the all the times. Some scholars may have some other opinions. Knowledge Seekers do not have objection for that.
