Pranam to Parampoojya Parameshwar Sadguru Swami Anilji Maharaj
Atmadhnyan Shighra Sadhana… 32
(English Translation of the series in Hindi by Brahmatmaikdhnyani Sant Swami Anilji Maharaj)
We are studying Panchkosh Nirakaran (Five covers and exceptions there of) in the practice for Knowledge seeker.
After food, gaseous and mind cover, there is Vidhnyanmaya cover.
Vidhnyanmaya kosh : Formed by intellect, senses, instinct, attitude together, this is Vidhnyanmaya cover with perception of doer. This cover is the keeper of the ego,
“I am doing everything with my intelligence and ability”.

“With the characteristics of, “I, me mine”, and ego; this cover is devoid of beginning and this only is known as ‘Jeev’. As per the earlier desires this only keeps on doing
sin-pious deeds, taking births in numerous species, devours the fruits of good /bad deeds, goes to higher and lower levels. This Vidhnyanmaya kosh has awakened, dream and sleep states, it has happiness and grief. This kosh egoistically claims that the body through which, biological and action deeds as well as interactions with nature (senses – desires – actions) are done; as “mine – mine”.
Being closest to Parmatma this kosh is extremely bright and this kosh is Upadhi of Parmatma. Due to the Upadhi having, “I am” ego the human being gets this illusory birth-death world. “
Throbbing of Self illuminated Atma when occurs in senses, then That is known as Kutastha and when Kutastha is in Vidhnyanmaya kosh, known as Doer – Experiencer. However Vidhnyanmaya kosh itself can not be Atma because it is changing, insentient, bounded and visible.
Anandmaya kosh : Bhagawan Acharya writes that this is manifested by tamogun, with three properties; Priya (liking), Mod (delight) Promod (joy, pleasure).
Whenever man gets whatever he desires or happens as per the desire this kosh is experienced(for a moment). The kosh is activated in the sleep.
This anandmaya kosh is also not Parmatma because this has Upadhi, (dependent on body), this is the nature’s work, and is dependent on the fruits of pious deeds.
Thinking on the lines of Shruti and Statements of Guru, when we make exceptions to all the above five koshas then one entity remains. Only, “I” is the remnant and that is Atma.
So we have seen that by doing Shravan, Manan, Nididhyasan and applying the methodology of Anvaya Vyatirek and adhyarope Apavad we can get the idea of Parmatma.
We have seen in details the meaning of Shravan, Manan and Nididhyasan told by Yadhnyavalkya Rishi to Maitrei. Honorable Sage Tells further to Maitrei,
“….. Vidhnyanen idam Sarvam viditam”
Means – By understanding Atma, everything gets understood. That means Atmadhnyani becomes Omniscient. Knows everything.
Comments by Shankaracharya :
Question : nanu katham anyasminvidite.. e.. nya dwiditam bhavati?
By studying one subject how one can get the knowledge of other subject? By studying Physics how one can get the knowledge of economics? This is not understood?
Answer : This is not a mistake; because there is nothing else other than Atma, if any such thing would have existed then the knowledge of such thing would not have been possible by Atmadhnyan. However there is no other thing. Atma is everything, so when Atma is understood everything is understood.
“Brahmedam kshatramime loka ime deva Imani bhutanid sarva yadayamamtma”
–Brihadarannyak 2.4.6
Sage Yadhnyavalkya further preaches that, Brahman, kshatriya and all other people, different gods, bhootgan and everything else is Atma only. Because everything is created from Atma and merges in to Atma and in between period also everything is Atma. Nothing besides Atma can be found so everything is Atma.
I have written this short series on the subject of, “Atmadhnyan Shighra Sadhana”, which can be surely helpful to the persons who have quest for “Atmadhnyan”. Tomorrow I will end this series after explaining one more Guidance provided by Shruti.
In fact I got inspired to write this from the question, “Which practice or sadhana should be undertaken to acquire Atmadhnyan?” raised by Advocate Shri Arjun Singh Thakur. Tomorrow’s Lekhank would be the last. However any of my friends have some questions, they can ask me.
I do not expect any likes or comments as liking in this subject can get developed only through noble deeds in past births. However my intention was to provide some guidance to the members of SUGWAY. With SUGWAY publishing this series in the form of a book would immensely help several people.
