O Sadguru You are full of Joy inside out. You Yourself are Joy. There is Shruti in Upanishad, “Anando Brahmeti”. Asi means Exists. This is the part of Ved Mahavakya, “Tatwamasi”. Ved Mahavakya are of such an importance that when Mumukshu Disciple listens this from Sadguru, He immediately grasp the Knowledge and realisation of Self emerges from within. He attains Emancipation and experiences oneness with Paramatma.

There are six such Ved Mahavakya.
Parampoojya Swamiji says, let’s dwell some time to understand this Mahavakya, “Tatwamasi” Understanding this is quite crucial during the study of Adhyatm (Spirituality). Whoever grasps what is in, by “Tatwam” he understands everything. Plain translation of the three words in this sentence, is : Tat (He), Twam (You), Asi (is); is “You are He”. He means Paramatma. This sacred sentence is from Chhandogya Upanishad. While imparting knowledge to Shwetaketu, his father finally reveals that O Shwetaketu, You only are Paramatma.

If anyone is simply told that You are Ishwar, then what his impure gross buddhi will think? Ishwar means he would think God like, Shankar, Ganesha, Ram, Krishna, Datta, Hanumant etc. This is thinking of impure buddhi. This is not correct. We already have seen that Ishwar is imaginary and is perceived through nescience.
The second word Twam which means you; he (common man) would take that as his bodily existence. This is not at all what the sacred sentence is revealing.

When one goes into the folds of Sadguru, starts doing selfless service to Sadguru, then buddhi starts getting refined. The grossness starts evaporating. His thinking becomes more and more pure and focused. Then in his contemplation, he realises ‘Tat’ as Paramatma. Paramatma without any sobriquets. He understands that whatever visible world, seen and sensed by the sense organs is not the part of Paramatma. The world is only an illusion. In the twilight the piece of rope appears as snake. When proper light is put snake disappears and the real rope is seen. Similarly due to ignorance the illusion of the world is felt. That is not Real. Tat means Paramatma beyond senses and not the God with form and name.
