It is very firmly depicted here, that, if our quest is for attaining, Emancipation, to reach out to Paramatma, to have Self Realisation, then listening Vedant Principles from Self Realised Sadguru is the only way. There is no other option.
That very clearly means, we need to approach Sadguru who is alive. And we must strive for Sadguru’s benevolence to attain Atmadhnyan during his life time. Once our Sadguru leaves the body then Vedant Dhnyan can not be imparted by him. Vedant is very straightforward without tinge of emotions. Everything is based on Principles and the process is very scientific.
Guru should be alive. Guru should be capable of preaching Vedant Principles.
Swamiji got motivated towards unraveling of these totally scientific Vedant Principles only when He met Paramguru Khaptinath Maharaj. But if one tries to study entire Ved Shastra Granths (scriptures), then even the whole lifetime is not enough. Therefore a short cut is necessary.
What is essential is to study those ten Upanishad, commented by Bhagwan Shankaracharya. And also Four, five Granths authored by Bhagwan Shankaracharya. And even in these scriptures we need study only the portion related to Vedant. For example, While studying Brihadaranyak Upanishad and Chhandogya Upanishad, the part related to rituals and Penance can be left out. Concentrate only on the portion related to Vedant Dhnyan Principles.
We should restrict to the portion elaborating Brahm. In this way We should be quite selective in our studies to effectively utilize the time. The reading of course is secondary. Reading can be done only when Sadguru asks to study particular scripture. Reading without the advice from Sadguru will not have effect. This has been my own experience. In case your Guru is not conversant with Vedant Principles or is not able explain these principles then you have to yourself study these Scriptures of Vedant, Upanishad, Shruti. But if Guru knows and explains Vedant Principles, then the sacred Speech from Sadguru is only your Shravan. You need to listen to your Sadguru alone. No further reading is necessary. Whatever Sadguru imparts that is the final Dhnyan. There is no existence of any other Dhnyan. The sacred words from Sadguru alone would take our buddhi to such a finer level to have desired transformation to grasp Dhnyan. Total surrender with full trust on Guru’s words is the only way. Nothing else is needed.
