Pranam to Parampoojya Parameshwar Sadguru Swami Anilji Maharaj
Shatpanchashika Stotra… 13
(Based on the discourse in Hindi by Parampoojya Swami Anilji Maharaj)
“Ekooopi sannayam bhuma mayaya bhatyanekavat l Punso yathakshidoshen Chandra Eko dwitiyavat ll18ll”
In this Shloka Parampoojya Saraswati Maharaj is telling that because of defect in the eyesight one thing appears as many numbers of things. If one of the eye is slightly pressed then every material thing appears in two numbers. Maharaj is telling that due to eye sight defects one moon appears to be many moons. Similarly Singular Homogeneous Atma is seen in various Names and forms by Our sight and senses under the influence of Maya (Which is known as the world).
“Atmopadhivashadbhati nishchalooopi hi chanchalaha l Vikari nirvikarooopi jalopadhigatarkavat ll19ll”
Reflections of Sun is seen in Innumerable water bodies. We know that Sun is not moving, not vibrating. Even then when Sun gets sobriquet of water Sun appears to be moving and vibrating. Similarly even though Atma is unmoving, fixed, Homogeneous and Omnipresent, appears to be moving because of sobriquet. This body is sobriquet on Atma
Swamiji says that we come across this sobriquet word quite often in Scriptures. Bhagwan Vasudevanand Saraswati Maharaj also tells in this Shloka, that the reason for appearance of Atma in various forms and names is sobriquet only.
Let us see what is sobriquet. When we call anyone, say Ramesh, he comes near. When Ramesh comes near, the clothes he is wearing, watch, ring and other jewelry he is wearing also comes near along with him. All the things worn by Ramesh seem inseparable, but those things are not Ramesh. Whatever is worn are sobriquet of the body of Ramesh.
Similarly the body formed by Panchamahabhoot and trinity of Qualities is not Atma, it is only sobriquet of Atma.
