Pranam to Parampoojya Parameshwar Sadguru Swami Anilji Maharaj
Shatpanchashika Stotra
(Translation of the discourse in Hindi by Parampoojya Swami Anilji Maharaj)
Hymn or Doxology revealing Vedant Dhnyan Principles in 57 Shloka; composed by Datt Ishwar incarnation, Parampoojya Wasudevanand Saraswati Maharaj
“Tryaatma Sachchitsukho Datto, Raktoshnakashdeepvat । Mayabdhinoudhrudhāsānga Tadbhaktirn tatha plavaḥ ll1ll”
This is the first verse of the Shatpanchashika hymn written by Hon. Vasudevanand Saraswati. In this stanza he has told about the Lord Dutt guru’s
unmanifested form.
The word Trya-Atma or Tri-atma indicates towards the venerated God Duttatreya/Duttaguru. This can lead to following conclusions:
1) Tri-Atma refers to Trigunatmak Atma.
2)Tri-Atma refers to the Trinity of Atma.
1)Trigunatmak Atma:
The soul masked by the influence of the trine qualities (Trigun) , namely sat, raj, tama, is called a Trigunatmak Atma. Such an atma is the terrestrial soul, according to the sacred scriptures.
It must also be noted that Shri Duttaguru’s father/creator was Maharishi Atri. Atri means one who is free from the influence of the trine qualities(Paramatma/Atma). His son Gurudev Duttatreya depicted with three heads is the representation of the soul submerged in the sea of Maya created by the trigunas. (jeevatma)
2)Trinity of Atma
The trinity of Atma are Atma, Jeevatma and the Paramatma. Here the great Gurudev Duttatreya is presumed as the emblem of the trinity of Atma.
However, the trinity of Atma is just the immortal, immeasurable soul, percieved in three different ways.
1..Atma – the all pervaded Atma.
- Jivatma – Atma identical with individual jeeva.
- Parmatma – Unmanifested Atma.
Even though the above forms of Paramatma are perceived seperately, they are actually the same. The Paramatma exists as a homogeneously all-pervded Atma like ether pervading everywhere.
The term ‘Sachitsukho Dutto’ implies that Shri Duttaguru is this Sacchidananda.
सत् – Sat- means immutable, imperishable, perpetual form
चित्त- the form of consciousness due to which the world(sansar) seems animate.
आनंद- Anand- The form of constant experience of joy.(paramanand anubhuti)
Everything under the sunlight looks bright and clear. Essentially, we can only see the sun in its own brilliance. Hence the Saraswati Maharaj analogises Shri Duttaguru to this self enlightening sun.
Devotion to Shri Duttaguru is bound to liberate one from the cluthes of Maya. It will give one the courage to raft safely through the murky waters of this illusory world. However, the Saraswati Maharaj emphasises, devotion to Shri Dutta Guru’s quantitative and qualitative idol as a worship of the portrayal or a representative nature.
Pursuing/search of self(atma) is the only foremost/pivotal/essential form of devotion to attain emancipation from the constraints of Maya. Hence, achieving Paramanand.
